About Andrew
I am an experienced Manual therapist with diplomas in Anatomy and Physiology, Remedial, Sports, and Deep Tissue Massage, as well as holding certificates in Integrated Myofascial therapy and CranioSacral therapy.
I studied massage in Brighton, and then went on to train in Integrated Myofascial therapy in London, and CranioSacral therapy with the Upledger Institute.
My training enables me to be versatile in my practice and I use the title “Structural Bodywork” to describe the way I integrate all these approaches into a treatment to suit your individual requirements. I currently work from two clinics in Hove, East Sussex. Please call to discuss any questions you may have or to make an appointment.
Skill Development
I use to work in music and entertainment, and then in retail. It was during this time that I started to suffer from acute back pain. At this point in my life I knew very little about my body and how it worked. I decided to start practising Tai Chi and, became very dedicated to this practice; gradually my back pain improved.
I started to read and study Chinese health exercise, and Chinese medicine, which eventually led me to study complementary therapy. I enrolled on a 1-year intensive course at the International Institute of Health and Holistic Therapies and achieved diplomas in Body Massage, Anatomy and Physiology, Aromatherapy and Reflexology.
After gaining my initial qualifications I spent a further year studying Sports and Remedial Massage and sports injuries with the International Institute of Sports Therapy and the Football Association.
As my work has progressed I have become very interested in Structural Body Work, and how function and structure affect each other. I am fascinated by the way our posture and emotions are so interrelated and the influence this can have on our health and wellbeing. My research led me into a whole new area of bodywork and into the world of fascia.
After reading about how fascia can influence our posture, function and wellbeing,
I decided to learn ways of incorporating skills into my practice, which work
with fascia to relieve pain and create balance in the body. I now have certificates
in Integrated Myofascial Therapy with Myofascial Release UK and Ireland,
and in CranioSacral Therapy with the Uplegder Institute.
My passion for learning new skills and my fascination with fascia
has taken my work to another level, I am continuing more advanced
training in new areas of bodywork, and am taking the Tom Myers’
K.M.I Structural Integration course, as well as advancing my training
in CranioSacral therapy with the Upledeger Institute.
I am a full time therapist, and am fully insured with the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT). I am also a member of the International Council of Holistic Therapists (M. I. C. H. T.)
